we got a letter from our adoption agency regarding Melamine in China

We will be making an apointment for Rachel to get tested. We adopted Rachel in 2005. Dear Families,In recent months you’ve most likely heard about the infant formula tainted with Melamine in China. According to reports from China, this tainted formula has resulted in some babies developing kidney stones, and in a few extreme cases, experiencing kidney failure. I know we are all saddened by this situation, and by the suffering of Chinese children and their families. We are writing today to advise you that WACAP recently has heard from three families whose children were diagnosed with kidney stones. Two of these children joined their families as early as 2005. WACAP immediately contacted Dr. Dana Johnson, an adoptive medicine specialist at the University of Minnesota’s International Adoption Medical Clinic, to seek a recommendation for families who’ve adopted from China. Dr Johnson consulted with the section on Adoption and Foster Care of the American Academy of Pediatrics and advised us of the following: "...the consensus is to do urinalysis and BUN/Creat on all children adopted from China from 2005 onward and if abnormal, get a renal ultrasound."We know this information comes as a surprise and may be upsetting. We will continue to monitor the situation carefully and advise you of any further recommendations from the American Academy of Pediatrics. As we continue to place many children from China, especially children with special needs, we will continue to be in contact with the CCAA as well regarding this issue. We are sending this e-mail to all families who have adopted from China since January 2005 for whom we have an e-mail address. If you know of other families that may benefit from this information, please feel free to forward this on.

47th farm pumkin patch

Yesterday we went to the 47th pumpkin patch farm, we went with our friends Fay and Fin, the weather was crazy, it rained so hard and when we got to the pumpkin patch the rain stopped and the sun came out, we all had a fun time. Rachel ran though the bean maze and picked out a small pumpkin.

Two days later and all is well

We had a much better day today, I took Rachel to the new dentist and we had a good checkup.
Here is a picture of Rachel brushing the dragons teeth.

Dentist from Hell

I try not to write negative stuff on my blog but yesterday was a very hard day so I thought I would write about it. I took Rachel to the dentist to get 2 filling done. She started off great with the shots, just before they started the drilling they put stuff in her month to keep it open. Rachel has a high gag and that didn't go over well. The doctor started to get irritated with her and kept telling her to open her month. As his voice started to get louder Rachel's month got smaller. Now keep in mind she is a 4 year old and he kept telling her. It's all in your mind. So now she is crying and he is telling her to stop crying. So to cut a long story short, he said he couldn't work on her anymore. So by this time I am getting upset with him on how bad he is treating my daughter. We left the dentist and I was just about in tears, I didn't know what to do. I had a referral to go to a kids dentist so I just drove over there to talk to them. I stopped at McD's to get Rachel an ice cream as her face was swelling up. By the time I got to the other dentist Rachel face was all swollen, I took a picture with my cell phone but it didn't turn out good. I am so glad I decided to go to the other dentist because if I didn't, I don't think Rachel would of ever wanted to step foot in a dentist again. They were amazing they look at her face and gave her some med's and they told us to go and get more popsicles to take the swelling down. Wish us luck we have to go back on Thursday to get everything checked out. If any of you who are reading this are interested in the dentist that did this to Rachel I'll tell you off line.
Rachel face is STILL swollen this morning, as a Mama you can unstand i am still mad about what happen to my daughter.
So to end this post on a positive note, Rachel's NEW dentist was worried about her so she called me at 9:00pm last night to check on her, Wasn't that nice.

Rachel's first time at the dentist

Rachel had her first time at the dentist today, i tryed to read books about the dentist and show her a show all about kids going to the dentist.
As a Mama I was sad to hear the Dr say she had 3 cavities, I sad "WHAT 3" I felt so bad, because I am the one who brushes her teeth everyday. He said one of her teeth did not grow right so they are going to fit it.
The dentist told me NOT to tell her what is going to happen when i take her in again.
